The Faroese Way Heima

Heima: Not just home, but a way of life

Belonging
Time
Freedom
Dignity
In the Faroe Islands, doors are left unlocked, friends drop by unannounced, and neighbors join forces to build each other’s homes. In a world that is hyper-connected virtually, but fraught with loneliness and isolation in reality, we take enormous comfort in the close bonds we have forged within our community. This connection is knitted into the very essence of our garments, and, through our our community, our stories, and our brand, we seek to share our values with the world.
According to The Little Prince, “stars are beautiful because of a flower that cannot be seen.” Similarly, our knits are special not simply because of the way they look, but because of the care and time that goes into making them, as well as their connection to the natural world. In the Faroe Islands, we move with the rhythms of the weather and shear our wool every summer. Our attunement to natural cycles is at the core of our craft. Through our hand-knits, we demonstrate our respect for nature and our harmonious and balanced use of its resources.
In freedom lies fulfillment, and in courage lies true freedom—the courage to forge your path and stay true to your values. At Guðrun & Guðrun, we are proud to have defied industry norms, using materials and processes that were dying off and growing at a pace that respects age-old craftsmanship over short-term capital gains. We empower our women knitters with economic independence. We do believe that women empowerment all starts with the freedom to earn your own money.
We value and respect every link in our company’s value chain, from the sheep that provide our wool to the women who knit each piece. Our knitwear is not just designed to look good and feel good, but also to do good. Indeed, our mission is to make fashion with dignity and make dignity fashionable.

Føroyskur Seyður - A Unique Breed

Sheep roam freely across our 18 islands lending the Faroes its name — Sheep Islands in Old Norse.

Nestled in the North Atlantic Ocean, halfway between Iceland and Scotland, these islands are modest in size, yet powerful in spirit. Here, a proud nation endures, with a culture as fierce as the landscape it holds and a language rooted in Old Norse. Our rugged cliffs and windswept shores symbolize a way of life defined by resilience, self-reliance and deep bond with the natural world.

At Guðrun & Guðrun, we incorporate elements of ‘Heima’ in everything we create, bringing our small, but precious world to the larger world around us.

Our wool

From the Faroes to the world

Our hand-knits harken back to a bygone era - when the pace of life was slow, the environment was unspoiled, and products were locally sourced and naturally made.

Klubb Guðrun

Faroese women are known for their exceptionally close-knit community.

Through our systurbond, we share news, host events and forge connections.
