Inspiring Women

Women we love

In the Faroe Islands, knitting is part of the fabric of daily life, a tradition passed through generations and shared among families and friends. This heritage isn’t just about making garments; it embodies community, resilience, and the quiet determination that characterises our home. When we started Guðrun & Guðrun, we weren’t simply focused on our materials and patterns, but alsowhowas doing the knitting. We take immense pride in supporting and celebrating the remarkable women who keep this craft alive. Today, we highlight two extraordinary knitters, Ingun and Thora, whose dedication and passion continue to inspire us.

Ingun

Ingun's story is one of unmatched commitment and talent. Without fanfare or recognition, she has knitted over 1,000 sweaters for us, a huge achievement which we are grateful for and completely in awe of.

There was a time when we received an ambitious order, and Ingun rose to the challenge, knitting an astounding 90 sweaters in just 100 days - a feat made even more impressive when we consider her full-time career as a nurse.

For our designers, Ingun is a dream collaborator, understanding patterns and ideas with just a hint or sketch. Her positive spirit, unwavering dedication, and infectious energy make her an invaluable part of our team.

Thora was raised in the charming village of Bøur - picture a rugged coastline with a river cascading into the sea, where no more than 40 houses sit, blending into the natural landscape around them, many of them literally thanks to their turf roofs, covered in plants and vegetation. Surrounded by this kind of beauty, it’s no wonder Thora was destined to be creative.

Still in Bøur today, where she lives in a postcard-perfect house, her roots run deep. Her grandmothers played a significant role in shaping her, each passing on a part of themselves. One was a sophisticated city lady with an eye for beauty and British style, while the other, who spent her entire life in Bøur, taught Thora to knit when she was just six years old. It’s this blend of elegance and village tradition that makes Thora so special.

Today, Thora is also a devoted mother to four children, adding even more depth to her remarkable story. She embodies balance and perseverance, and we are continually inspired by her talents and her remarkable ability to navigate life with confidence and grace.
