kalli's spinnery

January 20, 2020

The spinnery Snældan is a hidden gem on the Faroe Islands.

While all other spinneries closed centuries ago and the machines were sold abroad, Snældan and its owner Kalli stayed and continued spinning. He is a man of few words, but always warm and welcoming when I come to see him. I do so often, as photographers wanting to dig into our story, are very interested in meeting him and not least see the beautiful, mechanical machinery. He knows the machines as the back of his hand and he also knows when they need a specific kick to get running.

We have a dream of being even more local in our production and we hope to further the collaboration with Snældan. We have agreed with Kalli to awaken some of his old hand-loom machines, enabling us to offer machine knit that is produced 100% on the Faroe islands. We'll keep you posted on this endeavour.
